Eltham College Student Shortlisted for Sovereign Art Foundation Student Prize 2024

We are delighted to share that Grace, one of our talented Year 13 students, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) Student Prize, London 2024.

Grace’s artwork, Η μοίρα της Ανδρομέδας (The Fate of Andromeda), is inspired by the Greek myth of Andromeda. It offers a thoughtful commentary on how women were perceived and represented in ancient history. The piece is made up of intricate tiles, each telling part of Andromeda’s story. Symbolic details include a snake, reflecting the perception of Eve as impressionable and manipulative, and a dropped tile featuring an apple, representing a break from this narrative.

As a finalist, Grace’s artwork will be showcased at the Finalists’ Exhibition at Phillips Auction House, Berkeley Square, London, from 16-19 December. The artworks will be auctioned or sold, with 50% of the proceeds going to the artist and the other 50% supporting charitable initiatives. This year, funds will benefit Latimer Community Art Therapy (LCAT), an organisation providing accessible mental health support and community services through art therapy.

Congratulations to Grace on this fantastic achievement. We are incredibly proud of her and wish her the very best in the finals.
