Concert for St Cecilia: A Musical Milestone

On Thursday, 21 November, Eltham College Junior School hosted one of the most anticipated musical events of the year, the Concert for St Cecilia. This year’s concert was especially significant as, for the first time, it was a joint venture with Blackheath Prep, part of the Eltham College Family of Schools.

Held on St Cecilia’s Day—the patron saint of music and musicians, and also Benjamin Britten’s birthday—the concert showcased the impressive talents of pupils beyond Grade 5 on their instruments. A highlight this year was seeing Year 3 pupils perform alongside Year 6 students for the very first time, reflecting the continued rise in musical standards over recent years.

It was a fantastic evening of talent, dedication, and shared love for music. We can’t wait to see what next year’s concert will bring!

Pupils' Reflections on the concert
Isabella: It was so much fun and such a great experience. The acoustics in the room were really good, but I had to get used to playing on an older piano. I felt proud of my performance, and I really enjoyed watching the other children and getting a feel for Eltham College. It was so nice to hear other children play, see their talents and listen to the pieces they chose. I learned so much from the experience and am so glad I was part of it.
Ivo: I would count to concert as my first proper solo, and it was really good. I thought it was fun listening to all the other children play and have the opportunity to play in such a great venue.
Sam: The standard of music was very high and it was fantastic to be part of such wonderful concert and alongside other talented musicians, I really learnt from them. It was also special to perform in such a historic building.
