Eltham College Celebrates Exceptional Lent Term Sporting Success
Lent Term has been an exceptional season for Eltham College Sport, with students demonstrating remarkable determination, resilience, and a strong commitment to balancing their academic studies alongside their sporting achievements. Throughout the term, our teams have competed at regional, national, and international levels, delivering outstanding performances across a range of sports.
Hockey has been a standout this term, with two of our teams – the Boys’ U11A and Girls’ U12A – making Eltham history as they were crowned London Tier 1 Champions. The U12 Boys secured a runners-up finish while the U11 Girls came third in their own Tier 1 finals.
Another historic first was scored by the U15 Boys, who claimed the Kent County title. The U13 Boys also had an excellent county run, finishing Kent runners-up. The U14 Boys advanced to the National Plate Tier 1 Quarter-Finals and our U16 Boys reached the National Cup Quarter-Finals, placing them among the top eight teams in the country. Remarkable results all round.
Rugby 7s also saw impressive achievements, with the U13 Boys emerging unbeaten at the Kent County Tournament. The U12 and U14 Boys secured commendable runner-up finishes at Reigate 7s, while the U15 Boys battled their way to third place in the county.
Meanwhile, our netball teams showcased their skill and determination, with the U12 Girls finishing as runners-up at the Kent County Championships and the Girls U15A Netball winning the Eltham College Festival, beating Bromley High in the final.
In the pool, our Senior Girls’ 4x50m Medley Relay Team put in a phenomenal performance at the National Bath Cup, securing a top-four finish against the best schools in the country, while the U13 Mixed Water Polo qualified for the ESSA National Finals.
Cross country runners also delivered outstanding results, with the U15 Boys earning a place at the prestigious National Finals in Leeds, a fantastic testament to their dedication and endurance.
Congratulations to Zayd Khan (Y9) who finished 7th overall in the Mount-Haes Epee at the Public Schools Fencing Competition
On the international stage, we are immensely proud of Christine in Year 11, who made her England Netball U17 debut in Northern Ireland, where the team was crowned Europe Netball Division 1 Champions. Similarly, Raf in Year 10 made his England Hockey U16 debut in a three-match test series against Ireland. His remarkable performance included a hat-trick in game two, and he had the honour of captaining the team in the final match—an incredible achievement.
Congratulations to all our athletes on their hard work, perseverance, and success. With one week remaining before the end of term, we look forward to celebrating even more accomplishments and continuing this remarkable sporting journey together.
