Finalists Perform in Young Musician of the Year Competition 2025

Thursday evening saw one of the most prestigious solo music events in the calendar take place in Central Hall. The final of the annual Eltham College Young Musician of the Year competition brought together six outstanding performers, each representing a different instrumental or vocal category.

Earlier in the term, students submitted video recordings to compete in the first round across Strings, Woodwind, Brass, Keyboard, Percussion and Voice. These performances were reviewed by the Director of Music, who selected a winner and runner up in each category, along with several highly commended entries.

All six category winners who then performed live in the final, which was adjudicated by Matthew Jones, Head of Chamber Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, who was highly impressed by the quality of the performances, saying his feedback was in line with what he would expect to say if it were a conservatoire competition he was judging – high praise indeed.

Congratulations to all the finalists, and particularly to violinist Nirvana (Year 9) who won the title of Young Musician of the Year, and to Phoebe (Year 10), who was runner up.
