Greenwich Schools Girls Championship
On Tuesday 2nd July the final Athletics event of the season saw the year 7, 8, 9 & 10 girls teams take on 18 other schools across the borough of Greenwich in the Girls Championships.
The day got off to a flyer as 3 of the 4 4 x 100m relay teams qualified for the finals and Flo (Y7) crossed the line in 1st place in the 800m with an impeccable run. Further800m success saw Darcy (Y9) and Elsie (Y9) pick up 2nd and 3rd place respectively and Amee (Y7) win the long jump. Fellow year 7, Chloe, threw the Javelin 16 meters to come 2nd and Riva (Y9) hopped, skipped and jumped to 3rd place in the Tripple jump.
As we moved into the afternoon session, 2nd place success for India (Y9) in the Discus, Tessa (Y9) and Christine (Y10) in 100m, Jen (Y8) in 200m, Ellie (Y7) in 300m and Dara (Y8) in the 1500m with India Bradley securing her 2nd medal of the day with a superb 3rd place finish in the 1500m.
Emily (Y10) continued here outstanding form with a gold medals in the 300m (winning by 40+ metres) and a superb Long Jump, and Kyveli (Y10) was in fine form on the field with a gold in the Javelin and Discus. Meaning both were in with a chance of an unprecedented triple as they took to the track in the 4 x 100m finals. Both would secure that treble along side Christine and Shyla to take 1st place in the show piece event to close the athletics season.
An incredible day for the girls and a watershed moment for our girls athletics programme, no fewer than 20 medals secured across the day which culminated in Year 10 being crowned Champions.
